The NSP Magnet Funboard is a great platform for quick progression. Available in three designs, the Magnet comes with a single nylon 8” center fin. For riders wanting more grip from their board, or simply looking for a different setup from their fin clusters, there are many combinations available, depending on the conditions and skill level of the rider. The supplied center fin uses a standard Surf 10 box, and your four side fin boxes are Futures® compatible.

In addition to the single-fin setup that the Magnet comes with, the five-fin box system offers plenty of tuning options. Combine the 8” center fin with side bites or go quad on average-to-smaller days. Keep the thruster setup for the bigger days when conditions allow for committed turns.

A word on PU vs. EPS

PU as a construction refers to a surfboard built from Polyurethane blanks with Polyester resin, while PE refers to a Polyurethane blank with Epoxy resin.

These have long been the standard for most brands and is the most widely and affordable option out there. Due to the foam’s weight and density, PU boards sit a little lower in the water, helping you in keeping your rail under, which translates to that sweet “knifey” feel when slicing through the wave’s face.

Being a touch heavier also helps them to handle choppy conditions better and are less prone to being bounced around. Sitting lower in the water also has its benefits to barrel riding, providing more hold in hollow waves.

This is often a determining factor for surfers. EPS construction is more expensive for the manufacturers, resulting in them costing more than a PU shape.
